Within the sports industry, roles in community engagement and social impact are regarded as rewarding positions to attain. The people in these departments are spending each day not only influencing people in their local community, but also finding ways to set up their cities for long-term success.

When an expansion team in a sports league is announced, the first thing people usually think of is the incoming players and coaches. There will be articles posted about which players teams should sign, what their jerseys may look like and predictions about what their record may be at the end of the first season. One thing that typically gets overlooked is how many staff members each of those teams has to hire before, during and after their first season.

Within the sports industry, there are numerous roles applicants can pursue. There are part-time jobs, internships, full-time roles and more. One of the more understated roles that has taken off in the past decade is a graduate assistant within an athletic department. Graduate assistant roles are similar to internships based on the work someone may be doing, but they usually come with a wider range of responsibilities.
