1. Introduction Canine babesiosis is a tick-borne disease caused by the protozoan intraerythrocytic parasites of the genus Babesia. During the pathogen’s life cycle, ticks are the final hosts (zygote formation occurs in a tick’s intestine) and dogs are intermediate hosts (asexual division of the parasite occurs inside red blood cells).
