Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My own company, The Azarian Media Group, for no one wanted to hire me, so I created my own job.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes; it is a way to get in touch with what the pioneer journalist had to endure.

How is social media changing news?

Social media is giving the average Joe the opportunity to ask and state his/her opinions on any subject being presented to the public eye.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Carrie Bradshaw (of Sex in the City)

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Understanding what you are sharing with your audience is what makes you a journalist. Anyone can share a story just ask Facebook.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#MediaSucks, because lord knows that's a lot of open mouths LMFO!

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I love to be given the underdog or the unpopular candidate, for establishing a relationship with someone unknown is remarkable.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Mac Book Pro and iWork

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. It gets directly to the point. You may not be able to state all of your opinions in a tweet, but simple and sweet is news gold.

Who do you wish followed you?

Individuals who support my work. Those type of individuals are rare to come by.

Why did you become a journalist?

I've always had a problem expressing myself, but through journalism I can help others find themselves and connect them to people they need.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No; at that time my heart lied in music, which transitioned into songwriting, which then made a pit stop in journalism.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I had the pleasure to interview Olympic athlete Ben Bratton in 2012 before and after the Olympics.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Declare your independence and live your life.

When's the best time to pitch you?

At midnight. No one is up... but me. Burning that midnight oil and thriving off of creativity.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

When I got a chance to interview an Olympic athlete. Was a delightful experience.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

One pertaining to a butcher shop. I'm pescatrian so it gave me a slight nightmare.

What's your favorite drink?

Anything with a nice fruit base.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Taking photographs.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Talk2Pops

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I'm a fluid journalist. My writing style can adapt to and cover pretty much anything that's within my range of thought.
