Interspecific competition negates CO 2 benefits for most plant species
Abstract Elevated CO2 (eCO2) frequently stimulates plant growth and is widely assumed to enhance productivity in multispecies communities1,2, yet species responses to eCO2 vary widely with biotic and abiotic context1,3,4. Whether eCO2 relaxes competition or amplifies existing competitive hierarchies, shaping how growth benefits are distributed among species, remains poorly resolved.

Systematic review: non A‐E, seronegative or indeterminate hepatitis; What is this deadly disease?
A significant proportion of cases of acute liver failure (ALF) do not have an identifiable cause; so called “non A‐E,” “non A, non B, non C,” “seronegative” or “indeterminate” hepatitis. However, this entity is clinically not well described. To collate the known incidence and outcomes in indeterminate hepatitis.

Review article: hepatitis E-a concise review of virology, epidemiology, clinical presentation and therapy
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a leading cause of acute icteric hepatitis and acute liver failure in the developing world. During the last decade, there has been increasing recognition of autochthonous (locally acquired) HEV infection in developed countries. Chronic HEV infection is now recognised, and in transplant recipients this may lead to cirrhosis and organ failure.
Altered Fatty Acid Metabolism and Reduced Stearoyl-Coenzyme A Desaturase Activity in Asthma
Fatty acids and lipid mediator signaling play an important role in the pathogenesis of asthma, yet this area remains largely under-explored. The aims of this study were (i) to examine fatty acid levels and their metabolism in obese and non-obese asthma patients and (ii) to determine the functional effects of altered fatty acid metabolism in experimental models. Medium- and long-chain fatty acid levels were quantified in serum from 161 human volunteers by LC/MS.

Paracetamol toxicity: epidemiology, prevention and costs to the health‐care system
Abstract Paracetamol has been used as an analgesic and antipyretic for many years, with toxicity first noted in the 1960s. Since then the incidence of poisoning has increased, and paracetamol is now the most common drug in self?poisoning, with a high rate of morbidity and mortality.
Patients with the worst outcomes after paracetamol (acetaminophen)-induced liver failure have an early monocytopenia
Acute liver failure (ALF) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Studies have implicated the immune response, especially monocyte/macrophages as being important in dictating outcome. To investigate changes in the circulating monocytes and other immune cells serially in patients with ALF, relate these with cytokine concentrations, monocyte gene expression and patient outcome.
