A scorched mallee – just one within the 173,000ha or more burned in a bushfire in WA's Fitzgerald River region earlier this year. Certain landscapes inspire ardent advocacy, and one such place is the Fitzgerald River National Park in the south-west of Western Australia. Now, more than half of the park lies in blackened ruins after fierce fires swept through the region and surrounding Crown land in mid-January.
