How Stevie Alger Made 'Art At The Afters' Her Nighttime Studio
Image via Stevie Alger (Instagram: @artattheafters) THE RED DOOR swings open and, instantly, you are transported from the quiet of a cool West Hollywood summer evening and into Stevie Alger’s colorful world of “Art At The Afters.” The 29-year-old native Australian’s living room is crowded with dozens of paintings and canvases in all colors and sizes, with some commissions already wrapped and signed, (1 of 1) by Stevie Alger.
Introducing THE PAINT
Image via Sports Illustrated In 2019, Sports Illustrated sent me on assignment to follow NBA center Willie Cauley-Stein and art liaison Gardy St. Fleur around an Andy Warhol exhibit at The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Brant Foundation Center in New York City. It is still my favorite story I’ve ever written. KAELEN JONES is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
The RPO: The World Cup Was Amazing! It Also Sucked. What Does It Mean for the Future?
Lionel Messi gives Lamine Yamal a bath. (Photo by Joan Monfort) Welcome to The RPO Column. The idea here is simple: We have three topics. We RUN with one idea, PASS on another, and OPTION the other. After an amazing month, the 2026 World Cup is over, so let’s reflect — and look ahead.

“Futbolistas en el llano” (1924-1928) by Ángel Zárraga (1886-1946) Only 11 people have ever been born in Antarctica. José Manuel Valladares Solis is No. 6. Since birth, José has found himself in the middle, forced to choose a side.

The RPO: Pulisic, Pochettino, and the Future of U.S. Men's Soccer Post-2026 World Cup
(Photo by John Dorton/USSF/Getty Images) Welcome to The RPO Column. The idea here is simple: We have three topics. We RUN with one, PASS on another, and OPTION the other. With the United States knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, I decided to quit yapping in my group chats, spare those poor suckers of my thoughts, and just write them out instead. Enjoy! All that fuss over Folarin Balogun’s red card proved to be a gargantuan waste of time.
GeoSports, 82-0, and the Future of Sports Fandom
Illustration by Terra Pinckley (Twitter/X: @terralsp) As spring gave way to summer and the American sports calendar crept toward its annual lull, group chats around the country exploded. First came GeoSports. In May, the daily sports geography trivia game went viral on Twitter/X, earning more than 150,000 single daily users just one week after launch. Then, as the NBA Finals tipped off in early June, 82-0, a stat-based, NBA roster-building game, went viral.

The most frustrating thing about writing isn’t the painstaking mental torture of attempting to arrange words together in a way that clearly and effortlessly conveys your ideas. It’s that there are, inevitably, always ideas that get left out. Writing is my practice of understanding others. Understanding others requires context. Too much context can be overwhelming.
2026 World Cup: How Iranian Fans Are Reconciling Team Melli, Islamic Republic
(Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images) Scoring, in soccer, is precious. When the ball hits the back of the net, there’s a collective expression that instantly captures the yearning and gratitude for experiencing such a fleeting moment. It’s an emotional contagion unique to the beautiful game that’s difficult to name, but impossible to forget.

How Packers Legend Antonio Freeman Found Football
THERE’S A SPECIAL box where Antonio Freeman keeps cherished belongings commemorating extraordinary athletic achievements. A year ago, only a few items were stored; now, an assortment of red, white, and blue stripes, rich purples, and submarine yellows compete for space. The palette, however, is not an ode to his nine-year NFL career — which includes a Super Bowl, an All-Pro nod, and induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame — but to a father’s unabashed pride.

The San Francisco 49ers are attempting to overcome another injury scare in Week 8. During the first quarter of the 49ers’ Sunday night matchup against the Cowboys, running back Jordan Mason went down with an apparent injury. It was initially unclear why Mason needed to be tended to by team medical staff, and he ran off the field under his own power.
Jayden Daniels' Game-Winning Hail Mary Lifts Commanders Over Bears
Credit: Jayden Daniels, take a bow. Billed as one of the best matchups of the week - featuring the two betting favorites to win Offensive Rookie of the Year in Daniels and Bears quarterback Caleb Williams - Commanders vs. Bears delivered. Daniels threw a game-winning, 52-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass as time expired. Daniels launched a pass into the Washington, D.C. sky that was tipped and miraculously landed into the hands of receiver Noah Brown to clinch an 18-15 victory for the Commanders.
Jets Drop Fifth Straight, Lose 25-22 to Patriots Original
Credit: Despite being favored by a touchdown, the New York Jets notched their fifth straight defeat with a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 8. New York closed as seven-point favorites entering Sunday's contest. Per Action Network's Evan Abrams, that marks the highest that the Jets have closed against the Patriots since Sept. 12, 1999.
Shohei Ohtani Will Start World Series Game 3: Odds Update Original
Credit: Shohei Ohtani will start in Game 3 of the World Series despite an injured shoulder, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN on Sunday. Ohtani, who opened the World Series as the betting favorite to win MVP, suffered a left shoulder subluxation while attempting to steal second base against the Yankees during the seventh inning of Saturday's Game 2. Ohtani did not return to the game, but Roberts told reporters after the contest that initial tests were encouraging.
NFL Week 8 Injury Report: Which Injuries Have Impacted Odds?
Credit: As Week 8 NFL action continues, the injury list for the back half of the Sunday slate is chock full of star names that bettors should be aware of before placing their wagers. Below is a full list of the NFL injury report for the late Sunday games, with odds courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook.
Jayden Daniels Expected to Start vs. Bears: What It Means for Bettors
Credit: Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to start against the Bears in Week 8, and Vegas has adjusted its odds accordingly. Roughly a half hour after midnight on the East Coast, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Daniels - listed as questionable with a rib injury - would essentially be a pregame decision, with signs pointing toward the rookie suiting up against the Bears.
Drew Allar Injured as Penn State Rallies to Cover vs. Wisconsin
Credit: It didn't look so good coming out of halftime for Penn State in Week 9. The No. 3 Nittany Lions began the second half of their road matchup against Wisconsin trailing and without starting quarterback Drew Allar. Sophomore backup Beau Pribula replaced Allar under center after Allar suffered an apparent left knee injury late in the second quarter. Drew Allar came out of the tunnel and began throwing before walking over to James Franklin and talking.
Shohei Ohtani Injures Shoulder in World Series Game 2
Credit: Shohei Ohtani, the betting favorite to win World Series MVP, left Game 2 after injuring his left shoulder while attempting to steal second base in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs in the inning and Teoscar Hernandez at-bat, Ohtani attempted to swipe his first base of the postseason but was cut down by Yankees catcher Austin Wells. New York second baseman Gleyber Torres easily made the tag on Ohtani, who jammed his left arm into the dirt as he slid feet first.
World Series Odds Update: Dodgers Win Game 2, Improve Odds
Credit: The Los Angeles Dodgers are two games away from the 2024 title. Despite losing Series MVP betting favorite Shohei Ohtani to a shoulder injury and facing a bases-loaded situation in the ninth inning, the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees, 4-2, to win Game 2 on Saturday. The result improved the Dodgers' odds of capturing their first championship since 2020. After winning Game 1 in 10 innings, the Dodgers were listed at -240 to win the title, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
Travis Hunter Heisman Odds: Colorado Star Sits Out Second Half vs. Arizona
With the result well in control, Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter sat out the entire second half of the Buffaloes’ 34-7 win against Arizona on Saturday. Hunter was making his first start since suffering a shoulder injury against Kansas State that forced him to sit out the second half of Colorado’s eventual loss last weekend. But, according to Colorado, this week’s decision to keep Hunter out — with the Buffaloes up 28-7 at halftime — was made as a preventative measure.
Quarterback Mason Rudolph is set to start for the Tennessee Titans against the Bills on Sunday, according to multiple reports. Per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, Titans starter Will Levis is still dealing with an injured right shoulder, which he originally suffered during a Monday night contest against the Dolphins in Week 4.
Saints-Bucs Goes Over Total Before Halftime
The Week 6 contest between the Saints and Buccaneers provided plenty of fireworks in the first 30 minutes of play. New Orleans and Tampa Bay combined for 51 points in the first half. The over for the game had been set at 42.5 (-110). The Saints (28 points per game, fourth in NFL) and Bucs (25.4 ppg, 10th) came into Sunday boasting some of the league's most explosive offenses.
Public Loses After Chris Olave Leaves Early With Concussion vs. Bucs
Saints star receiver Chris Olave exited Sunday's contests against the Buccaneers after suffering a concussion in the first quarter. Olave was injured on his only reception, a five-yard completion, when a Bucs defender made contact with Olave's helmet. The public was heavily backing Olave entering the weekend. His over 46.5 receiving yards (-130) prop was the fifth-most popular at BetMGM on Sunday. Olave had crossed the 46-yard threshold in three of New Orleans' five games this season.
Jordan Love Injury Update: How Packers QB's Return Alters Odds vs. Vikings
Packers quarterback Jordan Love is expected to play against the Vikings in Week 4, despite suffering a sprained MCL three weeks ago, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Green Bay listed Love as inactive for each of the past two games. Backup Malik Willis has led the Packers to wins in both contests, despite being acquired just ahead of the start of the regular season. The Vikings originally opened Sunday's matchup as two-point favorites when odds became available mid-September.
How Tyler Huntley Named as Starter Changed Titans vs Dolphins Odds
The Miami Dolphins on Saturday officially named Tyler "Snoop" Huntley their starting quarterback ahead of facing the Titans on Monday Night Football. Miami claimed Huntley off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in mid-September after starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion that has landed him on Miami's injured reserve list.
Knicks NBA Championship Odds After Karl-Anthony Towns Trade
Credit: The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off the NBA offseason's most surprising blockbluster trade on Friday night. The Knicks reportedly acquired two-time All-NBA center Karl-Anthony Towns in exchange for forward Julius Randle, guard Donte DiVincenzo and a protected first-round pick. It's a move that enhances their starting lineup at the cost of depth pieces. Before landing Towns, the Knicks' NBA championship odds sat at +900 - after the trade, their odds improved to +750.

Meanwhile, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys - who are averaging 26 points per game (seventh) - are hoping to bounce back after dropping just 19 points at home against the Saints last weekend.
James Madison Upsets North Carolina as Double-Digit Underdog
Credit: If any doubt lingered over James Madison's status as an FBS program, they surely were put to rest this weekend. JMU pulled off a stunning 70-50 road upset against North Carolina in the highest-scoring game of the 2024 college football season so far. Halftime. Yes, halftime. JMU leads UNC 53-21 in one of the craziest halves you'll ever see.

Below are the most bet-on player props, according to ticket handle at BetMGM. Chiefs vs. Bengals 1. Isiah Pacheco (RB, Chiefs) over rushing yards 2.
Complete Week 2 NFL Injury Report
Entering Week 2 of NFL action, the league's injury list is already pretty lengthy and star-studded. On Saturday, 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey landed on injured reserve, shelving the All-Pro talent through at least Week 4. Meanwhile, the statuses of other stars, including Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson, Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, and pass rusher Joey Bosa will be names to monitor in the lead-up to kickoff on Sunday. Below is a full injury report for Sunday's action.
Texas QB Quinn Ewers Exits Game With Strained Abdomen
Credit: Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a strained abdomen injury during the second quarter of the Longhorns' contest against UTSA on Saturday. He went down after completing a pass to tight end Gunnar Helm before limping around on the field. He played another snap and handed the ball off before falling to the turf. Texas trainers and medical staff members tended to him, and he was surrounded by teammates. From there, Ewers was forced to exit the game.
LSU Defeats South Carolina
Credit: LSU overcame a three-score first-half deficit to scrape out a 36-33 victory on the road against South Carolina. The Gamecocks nearly pushed the game into overtime, but Alex Herrera's 49-yard field goal attempt sailed just wide as time expired. The No. 16 Tigers entered Saturday's contest as six-point favorites and closed -260 to win SU. But South Carolina was in control early on, jumping out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter.
