Animals Twenty-three adult male and female C57Bl6/J mice were used in this study and were randomly sorted into the control group (n = 11) or the stressed group (n = 12). Both groups were housed in groups of 3–4 in standard laboratory cages (19 cm × 30 cm × 13 cm) at the University of Illinois Chicago Biological Research Laboratory. All mice experienced a 12 h light/dark cycle at a temperature of 22 ± 2°C and had access to food and water ad libitum except during the Restraint stressor (Table 1).
