On-chip Cherenkov radiation tuning in 3.2-14 THz - Nature Communications
Abstract Cherenkov radiation has attracted much attention for promoting the free electron radiation sources. Using hyperbolic metamaterial, Cherenkov radiation can be excited using low-energy electrons and thus on-chip free electron radiation source has been realized. However, direct experimental observations of on-chip free-electron-based Cherenkov radiation have been limited to the visible region, and the tunability has not been thoroughly explored.
Chip-to-chip photonic quantum teleportation over optical fibers of 12.3 km - Light: Science & Applications
Abstract Quantum teleportation is a crucial function in quantum networks. The implementation of photonic quantum teleportation could be highly simplified by quantum photonic circuits. To extend chip-to-chip teleportation distance, more effort is needed on both chip design and system implementation. In this work, we demonstrate a time-bin-based chip-to-chip photonic quantum teleportation over optical fibers under the scenario of a star-topology quantum network.
On-chip spectral imaging and sensing transition towards marketable technologies - Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering
The shift from lab research to real-world production of scientific innovations comes with challenges. For spectral imaging chips, we address practical application needs by identifying real problems, solving them efficiently and delivering functional solutions. This has enabled a substantial transition from academic research to market-ready products.
Angle‐Insensitive Spectral Imaging Based on Topology‐Optimized Plasmonic Metasurfaces (Laser Photonics Rev. 18(12)/2024)
Graphical Abstract 3D Photonic Device for Spatial Mode Bases Mapping On-chip angle-robust computational spectral imaging based on topology-optimized plasmonic metasurfaces is proposed and experimentally reported in article number 2400255 by Kaiyu Cui, Yidong Huang, and co-workers. The fidelity of spectral reconstruction realized by an auto-encoder is over 98% under a 30° field-of-view, and spectral imaging for a standard color checker is demonstrated.
Electrically switchable 2N-channel wave-front control for certain functionalities with N cascaded polarization-dependent metasurfaces - Nature Communications
Abstract Metasurfaces with tunable functionalities are greatly desired for modern optical system and various applications. To increase the operating channels of polarization-multiplexed metasurfaces, we proposed a structure of N cascaded dual-channel metasurfaces to achieve 2N electrically switchable channels without intrinsic loss or cross-talk for certain functionalities, including beam steering, vortex beam generation, lens, etc.

On-demand photonic Ising machine with simplified Hamiltonian calculation by phase encoding and intensity detection - Communications Physics
Abstract The photonic Ising machine is a new paradigm of optical computing that takes advantage of the unique properties of light wave propagation, parallel processing, and low-loss transmission. Thus, the process of solving combinatorial optimization problems can be accelerated through photonic/optoelectronic devices, but implementing photonic Ising machines that can solve arbitrary large-scale Ising problems with fast speed remains challenging.
First-principles study of charge-transfer-plasmon-enhanced photoemission from a gold-nanoparticle--sodium-atom emitter
The plasmon-enhanced photoemission process significantly improves the quality of electron emission current, making it applicable for next-generation free-electron devices. However, classical descriptions are less suitable for understanding the interactions between plasmonic structures and other materials at the nanoscale.
Hyperbolic photonic topological insulators - Nature Communications
Abstract Topological photonics provides a new degree of freedom to robustly control electromagnetic fields. To date, most of established topological states in photonics have been employed in Euclidean space. Motivated by unique properties of hyperbolic lattices, which are regular tessellations in non-Euclidean space with a constant negative curvature, the boundary-dominated hyperbolic topological states have been proposed.

On-chip mechanical exceptional points based on an optomechanical zipper cavity
Abstract Exceptional points (EPs) represent a distinct type of spectral singularity in non-Hermitian systems, and intriguing physics concepts have been studied with optical EPs recently. As a system beyond photonics, the mechanical oscillators coupling with many physical systems are expected to be further exploited EPs for mechanical sensing, topology energy transfer, nonreciprocal dynamics, etc.
