Summertime (and its temperatures) have officially reached Covington. And while Chris and Katherine’s summer began in France on a family vacation, mine began in Berea, Kentucky. Specifically, the “Folk Futures” class taught by Rob Spiece at The Woodworking School at Pine Croft. I showed up for day four and five of the six-day class, taking pictures of Rob Spiece and students as they made dulcimer guitars from the ground up.

Below, Megan shows how to safely cut short stock on the table saw with ease. Spoiler alert; it involves a stick.

The square-back chair Chris built in the updated “Build a Stick Chair” video. It’s finished with dirt, soot and oil. The last time I filmed a Chris Schwarz how-to video I shopped primarily at the Gap and still had room to spare in my Dutch tool chest. I guess a lot can change in two years. That video was “Build a Roman Workbench,” and little did I know then that the Roman workbench would become my favorite bench in the shop. That’s another blog post, though.
