It has been a chance to learn more about my country — where we’ve been, where we are, and where we want to go. It is an opportunity to reflect on my place in it, and what I can contribute to the changes I want to see. For me, that observation starts with education.

In my 10 months across the pond, I made friends with enthusiasts, student coaches, and sports management students. It was unavoidable, there was no way I was walking out of the country without understanding the game.

Apr. 22 marks Earth Day, a tradition that began in 1970 as a nationwide call to protect the planet. That first Earth Day, 20 million Americans protested environmental destruction in the wake of the Santa Barbara oil spill. In 1990, Earth Day went global, and it has since been observed by more than 140 countries.
