Quantifying Chinook salmon habitat across flow regimes: high resolution modeling in Oregon’s Willamette river basin
Abstract The Santiam and McKenzie River basins of western Oregon provide critical habitat for federally listed Upper Willamette River Spring Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha). Streamflows in each basin are regulated in part by high-head multi-purpose dams; however, quantitative linkages between regulated streamflows and downstream habitat for juvenile and adult Chinook salmon remain limited.
High Resolution Mapping of Submerged Sediment Size and Suitable Salmon Spawning Habitat Using Topo‐Bathymetric Lidar in the Santiam River Basin, Oregon
1 Introduction The distribution of surficial grain size plays a foundational role in physical and ecological riverine processes. Grain-size distributions influence channel morphology (Dade, 2000), hyporheic exchange (Tonina & Buffington, 2009), and hydraulic roughness (Buffington & Montgomery, 1999b).
Overdoses can happen to any family, as they did to mine
I screamed in my car for what felt like five minutes after the phone call. My son’s fiancée’s name appeared on my cell screen while I was driving near Payette, Idaho. Just days before, we’d shared a joyful visit in Park City, Utah. Randy, at 31, had been sober for two years, engaged, close to graduating college with a promising job awaiting.
