This Highland Park luxury home seemed familiar, so I started digging through our archives. Indeed, I wrote about it in 2023. However, it’s even more stunning now with new staging by George Bass Stage & Design and new photos. It definitely warrants a revisit now that it is back on the market. What continues to set this home apart from so many others is the fact that it was built by Ventura Custom Homes as a spec. I love a spec home because the builders are not bound by a client’s budget or taste.

The Other Brutalist Building in Dallas We Love: J. Erik Jonsson Central Library

It’s the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library that faces City Hall. Part of Mayor Jonsson’s 1965 citizen-led initiative, Goals for Dallas, was a massive effort to erect new civic and cultural facilities.

A picture is worth a thousand words. That early American adage is especially true when it comes to real estate. It’s what made Jordan and Rayne Rogers fall in love with this Highland Meadows Midcentury Modern and return home to Dallas. Jordan was working in Portland, and he and his wife wanted to get back to family and friends during the pandemic. “I’m a big fan of midcentury architecture, so we started to look at homes on Zillow,” Jordan said.

The annual Preservation Achievement Awards allowed us to share and honor inspiring preservation projects and people involved in preservation in the Dallas community. “The stories of the places and the people who lived or worked there are what make Dallas so interesting,” says Preservation Dallas Executive Director David Preziosi. “We have a really rich history in Dallas that many people don’t think about or know about, and Karen brings that to the surface for people to learn and enjoy.”
