Three full seasons managed in the EFL, three promotions. Genius! The one word I would use to bestow upon Kieran McKenna. What an incredible achievement… I never thought Saturday was in doubt. We were far too good for QPR. The build-up was akin to Exeter City and Huddersfield Town promotion days. Arrive in Ipswich early, a couple of ciders and in place for the coach greet. The pre-game atmosphere once again pumped the adrenaline of excitement rather than a nervous fear.

I ‘for one’ am loving the results of our last two away games. Not since April 1961 have Town won successive away games 4-1. Back then, it was victories at Lincoln City and Derby County. We went on to win the old second division championship that season. A lucky omen maybe?… Saturday’s result capped a satisfactory week. With better finishing against Watford, it could have been nine points from three games. I do not think that four points from Watford at home and Swansea away is too disastrous.

He was the PFA Player of the Year for the 1980-81 season. A deserved accolade after a season in which his 14 goals in Europe equalled AC Milan’s José João Altafini’s record set in 1962-63. At the end of the same season, he won The Bravo award. A titled bestowed upon Europe’s Young Player of the Year.
