Abstract Purpose The aim of this study is to describe the essential meaning of the phenomenon of caring relationships in home care for older adults in Denmark, based on their lived experiences of caring relationships with home care nurses. Methods Ten older adults receiving home care from registered nurses were interviewed, and a phenomenological analysis was conducted according to the methodological principles of the reflective lifeworld research approach.

INTRODUCTION From a caring science perspective, the core of caring is to promote a patient's health and well-being [1]. Central to the concept of well-being is the need to establish caring relationships between nurses and patients. Caring relationships, which are found in interactions between individuals and are created between human beings, constitute a way of humanising care, as they contribute to care that makes us feel more human [1].
