Summer in Germany is time for warm, sunny days splashing outside at the local pool. Except, of course, when it is cold, cloudy and raining. But even in the dreariest of weather, or simply to avoid slathering on sunscreen, an indoor water park can keep those summer vibes alive. Here we have the biggest water parks near U.S. military installations across Germany; they are destinations in their own right.

To find out what was in season one sunny Friday morning in May, I wandered around the Mildenhall town square. It was market day and a large stall was full of red beets, carrots and plenty of leafy greens. There were also freshly baked breads, jams and local honey.
