Pet funerals have become a more and more popular choice as people increasingly treat animals as part of their family. Coleen Ellis says such a funeral does not have to be the traditional affair in a funeral parlor, as pets are inherently not traditional creatures. Pets do not conform to a specific idea of how to throw a funeral, as they do not have religion, she adds. For instance, Ellis is Catholic, but plans to include some Jewish elements into her own pet’s funeral.
