Medico-legal risk of infectious disease physicians in Canada: A retrospective review
Case characteristics There were 96 cases involving ID physicians that closed between 2012 and 2021. Of the 96 cases, 45 were complaints made to a College (47%), 40 were civil legal cases (42%), and 11 were hospital complaints (11%) (Figure 1). Physician characteristics can be found in Table 1. The patient population consisted of 56% females and 43% males, with less than 1% unidentified. Patient age ranged, with the majority falling within the 30–64 and 65–79 years age groups.
