1 Introduction At present, the most widely accepted view of the eukaryotic Tree of Life (eToL) is the supergroup model. A radical reworking of past schematics enabled by modern advances in molecular sequencing technology and the accumulation of molecular data from diverse eukaryotes, the supergroup model categorizes almost all of eukaryotic diversity into a few major taxa representing the most inclusive monophyletic collections of eukaryotic organisms (Burki et al. 2020).
