I have the privilege of being next year’s Editor-in-Chief for The Samford Crimson. If someone had told freshman me this fact, I would have been ecstatic that I reached the position of leading this super cool, new organization that I had just joined. If someone had told junior-in-high-school me fresh off of watching Gilmore Girls, I would have flipped my lid because there’s no way I’d actually be like Rory Gilmore. In all seriousness, I am honored to hold this position.

This season, Samford’s Women’s Basketball team won the Southern Conference (SoCon) championship for the first time in six years and played in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 14 years, all under first-year head coach Matt Wise. Wise had already been at Samford for three seasons as an assistant coach before taking the head role.

The world of professional sports is one of the hardest and most competitive job fields to enter. Samford’s Sports Industry Program (SIP) is seeking to help every student who’s pursuing a career in sports to land the job of their dreams. SIP was founded in 2011 by professor Darin White. He came to Samford in 2009 after 15 years at Union University, where he had been a professor and head soccer coach. SIP started with just Sports Marketing in 2011.
