SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A bill designed to keep registered sex offenders from running for public office failed in the State Senate elections committee in Sacramento on Tuesday. State Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria authored the bill after a registered sex offender tried to run for Fresno City Council. Soria, who formerly served as a Fresno city councilmember, says she is “extremely disappointed” that her proposal is not moving forward.

Could Fresno County get a hotel tax? Supervisors to ask voters with a ballot measure

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno County Board of Supervisors will be asking voters to decide if people staying at hotels and short-term vacation rentals in Fresno County should pay a so-called “transient occupancy tax” (also known as a “TOT”). The board unanimously approved a new ballot measure for November, saying it will raise much-needed revenue without impacting the wallets of the people who live here.
