Breast cancer genomic subtype-specific copy number alterations in metastases
Abstract Breast cancer is the second most common cancer globally, with rising incidence and poor prognosis following recurrence. Genomic analysis of primary breast tumours has identified subtypes with widely varying risk of relapse, highlighting the importance of tumour genomics in understanding metastasis.
SAVING THE CHIMPANZEE
An overview of threats to chimps and other great apes in the wild, and efforts to address them. It may seem premature to promote careers in wildlife conservation in an appeal aimed at a younger primary-grade audience, but Eason forges ahead anyway. She addresses “mission-ready” readers in her introduction and finishes with lines of relevant work from trained scientist to field guide, filmmaker, and even public relations specialist.
SAVING THE WHALE
Artfully cropped animal portraits challenge viewers to guess which end they’re seeing. In what will be a crowd-pleasing and inevitably raucous guessing game, a series of close-up stock photos invite children to call out one of the titular alternatives. A page turn reveals answers and basic facts about each creature backed up by more of the latter in a closing map and table.

Development and validation of a reliable DNA copy-number-based machine learning algorithm (CopyClust) for breast cancer integrative cluster classification
Abstract The Integrative Clusters (IntClusts) provide a framework for the classification of breast cancer tumors into 10 distinct genomic subtypes based on DNA copy number and gene expression. Current classifiers achieve only low accuracy without gene expression data, warranting the development of new approaches to copy-number-only-based IntClust classification.
Microenvironmental niche divergence shapes BRCA1-dysregulated ovarian cancer morphological plasticity
This study included 514 patients with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage II-IV HGSOC from TCGA, for whom H&E-stained whole-tumor sections from treatment-naïve tumor specimens were available. All specimens were obtained with consent from the relevant institutional review board participated in TCGA.
