During his 2024 campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly promised to bring down grocery prices starting on Day One of his administration. On Jan. 14, before the inauguration, I went to the Mankato Aldi and Hy-Vee stores to shop for grocery items I often buy, including bread, milk, cheese, eggs, potatoes, apples, carrots, coffee and oatmeal (no meat). I bought 21 items for a total of $56.69.

Julie Quist’s May 20 letter about libraries contains a number of inaccurate and incomplete statements. The American Library Association (ALA) is a non-profit professional organization formed in 1876 which now has over 64,000 personal, institutional and corporate members. ALA supports librarians in all types of libraries. ALA does not “train” members to follow a political agenda. ALA doesn’t require libraries to offer specific programs or purchase specific books.

I am dismayed by the attempt of Grace Lutheran Church to have the city remove the assessment the church is asked to pay for the cost of street reconstruction. What is particularly disturbing is the implied threat by Rev. John Odegard that the congregation will no longer be able to serve the community if Grace is required to share in the cost of municipal improvements.
