Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I took a typing class in high school with an old-school typewriter.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, I worked on our yearbook as a staff photographer.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I wrote a story about my gorilla tracking experience in Uganda. I love travel - add a unique adventure and the story sings!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Never give up and always tell the truth.
What's your favorite drink?
Depends. Day drinking: Anything with vodka. Dinner: A medium red wine. Happy hour: A cold beer.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
The beach.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Texas Monthly for their long-form stories and to keep up with what's happening there. Washington Post for news.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Because I cover Costa Rica everyone thinks I am sitting on a beach sipping a pink drink. Not exactly!
