What was your first job as a journalist?

An intern at a publication whose name I cannot remember right now. I quit after a month and I don't regret that decision.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Unfortunately not. I would have loved to at some point.

How is social media changing news?

Social media is changing news by taking certain functions of news making & placing them in the hands of the public (which is not a bad thing.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means understanding the weight of your responsibility while remembering that you're fallible and you're human.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Via email in a succint initial message.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Wordpress, Yoast SEO plugin, social media platforms and my cellphone.

Who do you wish followed you?

The publicists who work for the companies and personalities I often (and would like to) report on.

Why did you become a journalist?

To share a wealth of information with people in more accessible ways.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Unfortunately not. Our high school's paper didn't last long enough for me to get involved.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My lengthy travel feature on the Seychelles and every opinion piece I've ever written (except that one about Covid...)

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Research the industry, network and always put your best and most professional foot forward.

Mid-morning

When i think about the work I'm most proud of, I'm the one who gave those pitches.

I'd rather not say.

What's your favorite drink?

Ceylon tea.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

On my bed. Life is exhausting and recharging (and relaxing) is underrated).

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Business Insider (both the local and international versions).

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it is fluffy and frivolous.
