Abstract Plants from the Sceletium genus (Aizoaceae) have been traditionally used by the Khoe-San people in southern Africa, mainly for thirst and hunger relief, pain reduction and spiritual purposes, particularly Sceletium tortuosum. The research on this species has seen rapid growth with advancements in analytical and pharmacological tools. The Web of Science (WoS) database was searched for articles related to 'Sceletium' and 'Mesembrine'.
