DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A former Flyers great is returning to Dayton. UD baseball announced it has hired 2024 graduate Nick Wissman as its next pitching coach. Wissman, a Dayton native, was the Flyers’ first and only Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year winner. “I’m excited to be back,” Wissman said. “It could not be set up better for me.” The San Diego Padres drafted Wissman in the eighth round of the 2024 MLB Draft, the highest draft pick in program history.

Kenton Ridge’s Rastatter wins MaxPreps Ohio Player of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Following back-to-back undefeated state championship runs, Kenton Ridge sophomore pitcher Ivee Rastatter was named MaxPreps Player of the Year for Ohio. Rastatter was instrumental in the Cougars’ consecutive title seasons, recording the win in all 32 games for Kenton Ridge this season. Rastatter struck out 285 batters, posting a 1.53 season ERA.

Reds drop finale to Diamondbacks 5-3 to lose series

CINCINNATI (AP) — Gabriel Moreno’s go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Cincinnati Reds 5-3 on Sunday to give manager Torey Lovullo his 700th win. Geraldo Perdomo and Tommy Troy also went deep for the Diamondbacks. Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen had four strikeouts to move past Brandon Webb into second place on the franchise list with 1,067. Randy Johnson is first with 2,077.
