Preorders opened two months before the set’s September 16 release, a sharp break from the pattern of recent sets. Pitch Black’s preorders arrived just 37 days before launch, and Chaos Rising’s just 39, after years when the window sat closer to 78 days. For the anniversary set, The Pokémon Company threw out the compressed schedule entirely. The early start did not make it calm.
