Abstract Skeletal muscle regeneration requires coordinated myoblast proliferation and differentiation. Calcium dysregulation is commonly observed in aging and disease-associated muscle weakness; however, its impact on myogenic progression remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the mechanism by which intracellular calcium overload impairs myogenic differentiation and muscle regeneration.
1 Introduction Skeletal muscle, comprising approximately 40% of total body mass, contributes crucial roles in not only movement or strength but also metabolism and overall health (Butcher et al. 2018; Szaroszyk et al. 2022; Gehrig et al. 2010). Maintaining muscle function is essential for quality of life, particularly in the elderly.
