Discussion This study was intended to record serum IFN-α levels in patients with SLE admitted to hospital with high disease activity (SLEDAI >12). We observed the mean serum IFN value was significantly higher in non-survivors than in survivors. Serum IFN-α was also a better predictor of in-hospital mortality than global disease activity markers like SLEDAI or serological markers like dsDNA and C3.
