What was your first job as a journalist?

I worked as a copy messenger when I was 16 years old at The Pittsburgh Press. I was able to also write a couple stories.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes back in the days of Atex computer systems as well.

How is social media changing news?

Helping readers and sources access writers more quickly.

Clark Kent

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist helps be a voice for those who may not believe they have a voice, and hold those in power, accountable.

Why did you become a journalist?

I was also nosey! Loved trying to find out things and tell stories.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes, I was a reporter and then became front page editor.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks; Hurricane Katrina, The Virginia Tech shooting, the Rise and Fall of ValuJet

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Follow your passion and your instinct.
