Put Your Best Smile Forward When it comes to making a good impression, a bright, confident smile goes a long way. In addition to creating a pleasing appearance, our teeth also hold an important key to our overall well-being. If we’re getting our checkups and cleanings twice a year, we’re already well on our way to ensuring we’re taking care of ourselves. Good oral habits are easiest to maintain when they’ve been a part of our routine from a young age.

Postal Workers Deliver 20 Million Packages Per Day. What Can We Give Them in Return?
At the U.S. Postal Service Processing and Distribution Center in Cincinnati, my co-workers and I process millions of pieces of mail each day — postcards, magazines, catalogs, packages. If it’s mailable, we can handle it. During the holiday season, the pace quickens like you wouldn’t believe. But I’m proud to be one of the more than 600,000 dedicated postal workers working around the clock to deliver holiday cheer all across the country.
Twenty Years After Seattle, Is There a New Race to the Bottom?
Twenty years ago this month, I joined tens of thousands of activists targeting the World Trade Organization in the Battle of Seattle. Catalyzed in the late 1990s by the ‘future shock’ of increasing capital mobility, I was part of a collaborative project, Workers in the Global Economy, that sought to address the “race to the bottom” on labor standards in a world where capital was increasingly footloose.
Why Striking Teachers Across America Are Fighting for Much More Than Their Paychecks
While national news outlets hail the conclusion of a historic teacher strike in Chicago, another important story often overlooked by national reporters is the ongoing struggle to defend public education in the months that follow successful strikes.
One way to honor vets? Protect Postal Service
If you’re looking for a way to honor veterans, here’s one: Protect the U.S. Postal Service. I’m a veteran from a family of veterans. After serving in the Marine Corps, I got a good-paying postal job that put me on a solid path to financial security. Now I lead the Detroit Area Local for the American Postal Workers Union. Our 1,500 members include many veterans, some of whom I served with myself. Across the country, nearly 113,000 veterans now serve as postal workers.
Philadelphia Domestic Workers Win a New Bill of Rights
I’ve been a domestic worker my whole life. I work in other people’s homes, mostly as a nanny, but I’ve also been a homecare worker, taking care of people who are elderly and need assistance, and have chosen to stay in their homes as they age. I’m a cook, preparing meals. I’m a teacher, reading stories to their children. I’m a nurse, monitoring medication. And I’m a companion, keeping someone company when it is too difficult for them to leave their home.

One way to help honor veterans
USPS employs veterans at three times the national rate, but the White House wants to slash these jobs — and our benefits. I am a Postal Worker. If You Get Mail in a Small Town or Suburb, Listen Up!
According to new research by the Institute for Policy Studies, these ZIP codes are home to around 70 million people. These extra costs already range up to $4.45 for a package delivered to a home in a rural area. But my real worry is that these extra costs are just a taste of what would happen if the U.S. Postal Service is sold off to private, for-profit corporations.

She was just 48 years old. Houston was a megastar in the 80’s and 90’s with hits like Saving all my love, How would I know, and I will always love you.
