Reconceptualizing Prenatal Sex Steroids in Autism: A Toxicological Critique of the Baron-Cohen Framework
Submitted: 01 September 2026 Posted: 02 September 2026 You are already at the latest version Professor Sir Simon Baron-Cohen’s public acknowledgment that the phrase “extreme male brain” is clinically unhelpful marks a critical juncture for neurodevelopmental psychiatry. However, current mainstream perspectives continue to attribute the primary etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to hardwired, intrinsic prenatal sex steroid pathways interacting with genetic determinism.
The Filamin A Proteomic Switch: Solubility States and Cytoskeletal Dynamics Explain the Inverse Epidemiological Relationship Between Cancer and Alzheimer's Disease
This version is not peer-reviewed. Submitted: 01 September 2026 Posted: 02 September 2026 You are already at the latest version This manuscript unifies global registries with molecular kinetics to resolve the inverse comorbidity between cancer and Alzheimer's disease. We propose this inversion represents a binary, tissue-specific allocation of cell survival strategies dictated by the solubility of the Filamin A (FLNA) cytoskeletal scaffolding network under systemic cobalamin insufficiency.

A model of lipid dysregulation and altered nutrient status in Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that comprises the most common cause of dementia [1x[1]Scheltens, P., Blennow, K., Breteler, M.M., de Strooper, B., Frisoni, G.B., Salloway, S. et al. Revisiting the Link Between Precipitation and the Risk of Autism: The Role of Environmental Nitrous Oxide Exposure
Environmental factors are increasingly scrutinized regarding the etiology of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Kinney et al1 identified a role for prenatal exposure to hurricanes in Louisiana. Their conclusion indicated that prenatal stress exposure, defined by exposure to hurricanes and tropical storms, may disrupt developmental patterns and enhance susceptibility to ASD.
Cost-effectiveness of Wait Time Reduction in Behavioral Interventions for Autism
To the Editor Piccininni et al1 presented a cost-effectiveness analysis on the benefit of reducing or eliminating wait times for intensive behavioral intervention (IBI) in autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) through both a government and societal perspective. The authors’ measurement of effectiveness of IBI was independence later in life, measured in dependency-free life-years.
Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Autism Spectrum Disorder
To the Editor I read with interest with the meta-analysis conducted by Qin et al1 on the association between peripheral blood levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and autism spectrum disorder in children. The authors included 19 studies in their meta-analysis and concluded that children with autism spectrum disorder had significantly higher peripheral BDNF blood levels than did healthy control children.
Commentary: ‘Unhealthy diet,’ nutrient status, and ADHD symptoms: a confounding role for environmental nitrous oxide exposure - reflections on Rijlaarsdam et al. (2016) - Fluegge - 2016 - Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry - Wiley Online Library
Rijlaarsdam et al. (2016) recently published their findings utilizing a longitudinal design showing that prenatal ‘unhealthy diet’ was positively associated with IGF2 DNA methylation at birth across both youth cohorts. However, only in the EOP youth was prenatal ‘unhealthy diet’ positively associated with ADHD symptoms presumably through IGF2 DNA hypermethylation.
