Representation matters and as a Black film critic, it's important to have a voice for the culture.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

It's a marathon, not a sprint. Take time to build your craft as well as your contacts and the rewards will come.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Empire, Hollywood Reporter, Film Stories and Little White Lies.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Critics are paid for favourable reviews and are on the Disney payroll. If that was the case, then I'm still waiting for that Endgame money!
