When you picked up the latest John Grisham or Danielle Steele novel, did you ever wonder how it ended up on a library shelf? The life cycle of one of the nearly 750,000 print books in the Anne Arundel County Public Library collection is a process that involves many people.

What’s your mental picture of a librarian? Perhaps it includes gray hair, glasses and being told to be quiet. Today’s library staff breaks this outdated stereotype. They are detectives, musicians, social workers and tech gurus of all ages. Anne Arundel County Public Library has 415 full and part-time employees. The people who work here come from varied backgrounds. We have military veterans, health care workers, actors, paralegals and teachers just to name a few.

How the Japan dates came into fruition is just plain old music business networking. Keith and Susie Ulrey of Pohgoh met musician and booker Kishino Hajime two years ago at Pre-Fest in Gainesville, and he’s been wanting them to tour in Japan ever since.
