I was born on a chilly Tuesday night in March in the old Baptist hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. My mom called me the family’s “splash of color” because I came 10 years after my sister and seven and a half (to the day) after my brother. Finally, she said, our family was complete.

I suppose in this case, I can drive back and forth from Nashville to Oxford about 10 times and still have some chapters left. It’s a long one, but worth every minute. Kathryn Stockett set The Calamity Club in 1930s Oxford, Mississippi, and much of the town she wrote about is still standing.
