Hank’s Mini Market will be reopening this weekend, six months after the death of its founder, Henry D. Jackson Jr., also known as Mr. Hank. Jackson died Oct. 13, just two days after his 85th birthday, and his family decided to quietly close the South LA mini market. Now,  Jackson’s family will host a community memorial and grand reopening this Saturday, starting at 12 p.m. and ending at  4 p.m.  The event will include a community altar, art installations and music.

A multi-union strike could soon disrupt classes for more than 390,000 students across the Los Angeles Unified School District. The strike involves United Teachers Los Angeles, Education Works United, or SEIU Local 99 (which covers custodians, bus drivers, and cafeteria workers), and the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles. Union leaders plan to strike on Tuesday if they do not reach a contract agreement with district officials.

The term "transgender athletes" probably makes your ears perk up with culture war associations. The current climate could easily convince you this marginal community is everywhere, storming through championships and bathrooms. In reality, spaces for trans athletes are few and far between. Queer social group Trans Dudes of LA (TDLA) is providing a solution to that - T-Boy Wrestling. The event happens every so often, and as the name suggests, it's where transgender men get to wrestle each other.
