1 INTRODUCTION Social isolation and loneliness are global public health crises (Fakoya et al., 2020). Social isolation, which is having few social interactions, and loneliness, which is feeling excluded or alone (O'Rourke et al., 2018) are critical, underexplored problems among people living with chronic illness (Freedman & Nicolle, 2020).
