You can expect even more from them in Week 3 when New Orleans visits Seattle. The Seahawks may have gotten off to a rough start this season - okay, you can remove the "may" there - but the outlook was much better after they rebounded against the Steelers.

Kenny McIntosh dishes on Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, dynamics of Seahawks' talented RB room
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is doing things very differently than former head coach Pete Carroll did. From live corrections to actually practicing tackling and going for it on fourth and one, Macdonald represents a massive philosophical and schematic shift compared to his predecessor. However, one thing that they have in common is a love for a physical running game.
Pope Francis visits the United States

Twitter reporting some service outages
Twitter was reporting performance issues Friday morning that affected users' ability to see tweets in their timelines, search the service and post new tweets of their own. The company's developer status page reported issues going back as far as Thursday. Crowd-sourced sites like downdetector.com were showing user reports of outages covering much of the Midwest, northeast United States and Florida. This is a developing story.

The Morning Watch: Pinellas’s drug possession arrest rate is among Florida’s worst Here’s what’s new around the bay area this morning: Pinellas is among the top five counties with the highest arrest rates for drug possession in Florida, according to a report by the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights Watch. Lead author Tess Borden said the findings raise questions about the effectiveness of treating substance abuse as a crime rather, than as a public health issue.
Live blog: Hurricane Matthew
Officials say people who refused to evacuate from central Florida's Atlantic coast are calling for help now as Hurricane Matthew's western eyewall brushes past Cape Canaveral. Brevard County Emergency Operations spokesman David Waters said early Friday that more than 100,000 people in the area had lost power. Mandatory evacuation orders had been issued for 90,000 people living on barrier islands and in mobile homes and low-lying areas.
Live blog: Hurricane Matthew
Humans aren't the only ones hunkering down as Hurricane Matthew batters Florida. A stork has apparently found refuge in a zoo bathroom. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park has shared a photo of a marabou stork inside a bathroom at the facility. The zoo's Facebook page jokes in the caption, "no species discrimination in this bathroom!" Â The stork isn't the only animal taking cover from the storm.

Live blog: Hurricane Matthew
TALLAHASSEE — As South Florida began to see squalls from the outer bands of Hurricane Matthew on Thursday morning, Florida Gov. Rick Scott didn't sugarcoat the danger that awaits coastal residents who don't evacuate."This storm will kill you," Scott said during a morning briefing at the state Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee. If "you're in an evacuation area, get out. Don't take a chance.""Do not surf. Do not go to the beach. This will kill you," he added. Continue reading …Kristen M.

Live blog: Bucs fire Lovie Smith
Poll: If Bucs were to promote Dirk Koetter to replace Lovie Smith as head coach, how would you feel about the move? I thought lovie had earned his tenure, but the end of season collapse probably did him in. 1195 penalty yards didn't help either and the defensive coordinator should have been fired first set Koetter set his young QB for failure with a very predictable offense. Run fiirst and second and then pass long for a first down until game got out of control then he would open up.
Live blog: Bucs fire Lovie Smith
Just for reference, Dirk Koetter's record as head coach in college from 1998-2006: 66-44. Went 26-10 at Boise State, 40-34 at Arizona State. Poll: If Bucs were to promote Dirk Koetter to replace Lovie Smith as head coach, how would you feel about the move? Mississippi entomologists report on benefits of neonicotinoid seed treatments on rice
According to researchers from Mississippi State University, rice seeds that are pre-treated with neonicotinoid pesticides yield better than untreated crops and suffer less damage from rice water weevil, the most widely distributed and destructive early-season insect pest of rice in the United States. However, the economic benefits of investing in pre-treated seed depend on the level of insect pressure. The results of their study have been published in the Journal of Economic Entomology.

In other words, the cool stuff.
Our newsroom is loving these 15 things you might not know your iPhone can do
They title Buzzfeed uses is "15 Things You Didn't Know Your iPhone Could Do" — but odds are you already know one or two of them. And if you're still carrying a well-worn iPhone 4 or 4S like my wife and I, or if you're holding off on upgrading to the latest iOS version, your iPhone won't do some of them.
March Madness and your iPhone or iPad
I can promise my status as a Michigan alum and fan played no role whatsoever in my decision to republish this image, mostly. It's that time of year again. You know, the time when inconveniences like work, family and the need to eat and sleep all get in the way of what you really want to do — watch college basketball. Fortunately, technology is here to help. The Unofficial Apple Weblog has a rundown of a few apps that will help you watch games and monitor your bracket from your iPad or iPhone.
I ordered this thing called a Chil PowerShare Reactor today; I'll let you know how it goes
Why have I had such a hard time finding one gizmo that has a cord I can plug into the wall and a bunch of USB ports on the other end that I can use to charge all of my family's phones, iPods and whatever at the same time? On our last family trip, I brought a power strip and festooned it with all the USB charging plugs I could find in our house. It worked okay, but you still have to pack a little plug-box for everything you want to charge.
Did you get (loud) weather alerts on your iPhone today?
When a line of thunderstorms sweeping across Tampa Bay late this morning and early afternoon prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning for Pinellas County, everyone in our newsroom was instantly alerted — by a cacophany of beeps and buzzes as just about every smartphone in the building relayed the announcement. While certainly useful and probably even pretty cool, it's a strange feeling to be taken by surprise by something your phone does.
What would you pay for a bacon scent-enabled iPhone alarm?
Well, however much that is, it's not enough. Oscar Meyer has developed a gizmo that plugs into your iPhone and wakes you to the sound of sizzling and the smell of bacon in the air — but it's not for sale. Instead, you'll have to win one by entering a contest at wakeupandsmellthebacon.com. The only possible improvement? Bedside technology that wakes you with actual bacon.
Is iTunes Match a good deal for you?
I wound up as an iTunes Match subscriber when I rolled what I was paying for my old MobileMe subscription into it. Yes, I was a MobileMe subscriber — and before that .Mac, and before that iTools. Remember iTools? Of course you don't. For my part, I think it's fantastic. But Macworld published a great guide yesterday to determining whether it's worth your time and money ("Is iTunes Match right for you?" Feb. 25, 2014).
Mt. Gox problems could kill Bitcoin
It's not easy to start a new currency that's not backed by any government, and it gets harder when one of the major websites used to trade it suddenly vanishes from the Internet.
A video game that helps cure cancer
Ever had someone annoyed with you because you head was down, fingers twitching on your phone's screen instead of listening to whatever it is they're saying? Next time that happens, you can apologize, explain that you're just helping cure cancer, but you're happy to put that on hold while they're talking about whatever it is that's so important.
Follow the Olympics on all your screens
The Unofficial Apple Weblog posted a handy list yesterday offering five apps to help you follow the 2014 Winter Olympics starting this Friday. They're pretty much the official apps from NBC and the Olympic Games, but one is a third-party app that looks like it offers a pretty handy schedule, if nothing more. With so many events going on at the same time, the Olympics (summer or winter) are a great time to try streaming multiple shows to more than one screen at a time.
Macworld offers a "best of" list that might actually be useful
Too often, gadget blogs feature posts listing gadgets they claim are the "best of," or "top 10," or whatever, and it feels like they're just clearing a stack of news releases off their desks. But Macworld offered a "Great gear you might have missed" article last week that seems like it might genuinely solve some problems.
Google's new tech: A contact lens for diabetics
It tests your glucose levels by monitoring your tears. I'm not diabetic, but the tech here sounds like something out of Star Trek — "chips and sensors so small they look like bits of glitter, and an antenna thinner than a human hair." For power, it generates static electricity from ambient radio waves. I won't be in the market for one, as will be the case with most of us, but you've got to stop for a moment and think: How cool is that?

The AP has a story today on the Nabu, a fitness-style wristband from gaming company Razer that also receives notifications like a smartwatch. To wit: As a fitness tracker, the Nabu wristband tells you about your sleep patterns and the number of steps taken and the stairs climbed. As a smartwatch, it offers notifications about incoming texts and emails. If you join the developer program, you can order one now for $49.
Resolved: Back up your Mac this year
Everyone knows that having a plan in place to back up all the family photos, email and financial records on your home computer is a good thing. Unfortunately, few of us actually have such a plan in place. If one of your New Year's resolutions is to finally star backing up all your important stuff, and your computer happens to be a Mac, AppleInsider has some good advice to get your backup plan up and running.
Looks like a nifty app, but how much of my data plan will it use?
If you're on a limited data plan, knowing how much of your monthly allotment you're going to use up is pretty important. Overages can be costly. The problem is, paying overage fees are sometimes the only way to find out you're spending too much time, say, streaming that favorite Pandora station in your car. How can you find out which apps are likely to cause overages?

The Unofficial Apple Weblog has a post up today with some free and cheap apps that add a little holiday spirit to your Mac, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. It might be 60 or 70 degrees outside here in the bay area, but there's no reason your screen can't help remind you it's the holiday season.

You might think everyone is done with their holiday shopping by now. Or you might be like me. I'm not in the market for a new iPhone or iPad right now, but if you are, you might find MacRumors' list of the best holiday deals useful. An iPhone 5c for as little as $20? Who wouldn't want to know about that?
Traveling this year? Take the right apps along
If you're flying to see family anytime soon, you might want to look over Mel Martin's list of his favorite apps for holiday travel. He lists his choices for everything from turn-by-turn GPS driving directions (Navigon, $32.99) to keeping track of flight departure and arrival times (Flight+, $3.99). I use Flight+ myself, and I like it.

AP: Robots ready for big test in South Florida
It'll be a while before you can buy one of these to help you around the house, but it's still pretty cool. A Defense Department competition at Homestead Miami Speedway will welcome 17 humanoid robots that will try to climb into vehicles, drive them, open doors — all things a person can do easily, but might not want to have to do in a disaster zone. These aren't truly autonomous robots. They don't act on their own, instead being piloted remotely by human beings.
AP's gift guide: 'Navigating a maze of phone, plan choices'
A salesperson pulls out a phone for a customer during the opening day of sales of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5C in Hialeah. The phone's camera is among the best for everyday shots, and improvements in the 5S make it better for low-light shots, too. For $100 less, you can get an iPhone 5C without the fingerprint sensor or improved camera. If you're surprising someone a new smartphone for Christmas … well, first of all, I'm pretty jealous of whomever they are.
iPhone app's claim that it can improve your eyesight might not be just hokum (unless it is)
The GlassesOff app comprises two components â "game-like challenges" undertaken about three times a week, over a period of three months, and maintenance sessions every few weeks. See what you think of this: "Practically anyone can use GlassesOff to improve near vision sharpness by improving the image processing function of the brain," says the app's description in Apple's App Store.
