BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Canadian wildfire smoke during the summer of 2023 worsened asthma in kids living in our region, according to a new study out of the University of Vermont. Wildfire smoke contains tiny particles that can cause inflammation and damage people’s lungs. To determine the effect of that smoke, researchers looked at air quality data and electronic health records from 2022 to 2024 for about 900 kids who received treatment for asthma through the UVM Health Network.
