When I think back to the late 80’s and early 90’s, one film that stands out (after being permanently etched into my teenage, horror-loving mind) is The Hitcher (1986). It was the heyday of the home town video store and the era of late night HBO horror binges: a haven for horror fans. It was the perfect time for a small little road thriller based on a spec script to grow and thrive en route to becoming a full fledged cult classic.

Filmed in 1995 and released in 1996, Christian Duguay’s Screamers is celebrating its 30th anniversary. With its exceptional writing pedigree, a haunting soundtrack, and a cast headed by a genre icon, Screamers has all the ingredients of a top tier sci-fi recipe. Unfortunately, this dark, futuristic sci-fi/horror effort didn’t fare well at the box office or with critics at the time. Some films just seem to get better with age, though, and Screamers is one of those films.
