The Detroit Lions sealed the NFC North title, the No. 1 seed, a first-round bye, and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a 31-9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night at Ford Field. The Vikings struggled early, failing to capitalize on multiple red-zone chances. Despite seven snaps inside the 10-yard line across two possessions, Minnesota came away with just three points. Quarterback Sam Darnold went 1-of-8 in the red zone and finished with 166 passing yards.

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery and cornerback Terrion Arnold are both hopeful about returning for the team’s playoff opener in two weeks. David Montgomery, who has been sidelined with a rib injury, participated in a full workout  on Saturday. During the first quarter of Sunday night’s game NBC’s Melissa Stark reported Montgomery told her that he “felt the best he has since the injury” and expressed confidence and excitement about being ready for the postseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to release cornerback Darius Slay, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Slay, who has been with the Eagles since 2020, played a key role in their Super Bowl LVII appearance and was a major contributor to the defense throughout his time in Philadelphia. In an interview on the "St. Brown Podcast," Slay expressed his openness to returning to Detroit. "For sure, the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit," Slay said.
