English and Spanish will soon share equal space inside some Sun Valley Elementary classrooms as the Sunnyside School District launches a new dual language program designed to bridge languages and students together from the start of their education. The program, which will begin during the 2026-2027 school year with kindergarten students, is the result of a multi-year effort focused on creating long-term bilingual and biliterate learners.

Sunnyside schools expand summer meal program with new mobile sites

The Sunnyside School District is expanding its Summer Food Service Program this year by adding new mobile meal sites aimed at reaching children across the community during summer break. In addition to continuing meal service at the Sunnyside Pool and Sunnyside Community Center, the district will launch mobile feeding locations at the Outlook Post Office and Kiwanis Park.

Samantha Bowman returns to CWU as assistant coach

ELLENSBURG — Central Washington University women’s basketball coach Randi Richardson announced the hiring of former Wildcat standout Samantha Bowman as the program’s next assistant coach. Bowman, a Zillah native, returns to CWU after continuing her basketball career in Australia’s NBL1 South semi-professional league. “I’m very excited to have Sam join our staff,” Richardson said in a statement.
