How to Repair a Confused and Broken Male Culture
Our culture today has conflicting views of what it means to be masculine. Some say that being a man requires muscular strength, athletic skills, and a working knowledge of every tool in the tool shed. Classic alpha male. Others believe manhood is expressed by success in business, social status, or wealth – strong but in a different way. Yet we know these things do not reflect God’s design of masculinity. There is a better, higher standard for determining a man’s worth.
What Does it Mean for Christians to be Salt in an Unsalty World?
Don’t remove yourself from the world—we aren’t called to bunker down, lock out the world, and wait for our “beam me up, Jesus” moment. Pray, study, research, and learn as much as you can about the culture God has placed you in. It’s not by accident that you are drawing breath in a certain corner of the world at this specific moment in time. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
What Does it Mean for Christians to Be Salt in an Unsalty World?
I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. (John 17:14-15) When I was in college my friends and I were part of Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU).
Why Did God Make His Love a Choice?
Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. (Luke 9:23-24) The wisdom of our Father in heaven is truly amazing when we look at His Word and the way it is laid out, regarding the sequence of thought He uses to convey His love for us.
The Battle Against Satan is Real-Now What?
We take the fight to the enemy—we get angry and we get on our knees. We release the power of heaven in our homes and on our families and against the hell-hot arrows the enemy fires at us. The spiritual armor of God does you no good if its gathering dust on the floor of your prayer closet or if you are running from the battle—where your backside is completely exposed. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Preparing For Storms, Leaning Into Risk — Think Eternity with Matt Brown
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24–26) On December 26, 2004, just before 8am local time, one of the largest tsunamis in recorded history took shape off the west coast of northern Sumatra.
Men: The Truest Thing About You — Think Eternity with Matt Brown
The truest thing about you is what God says is true. Competing voices and forces are in a recruiting war over whose version of yourself you will accept, internalize, believe, and then put your energy behind. But when the man of God believes and acts upon what God says is true about him, an explosion of personal transformation occurs. You abandon any image of yourself that is not from God. You are not defined by your feelings. You are not defined by your circumstances.
Our Worship Problem
By J.D. Greear Published on August 20, 2023 Sin starts as a worship problem. We give non-God things God-like weight in our hearts. Eric Geiger, reflecting on the work of the Christian counselor David Powlison, groups our primary idols into four basic categories, calling them “root” idols: Approval: We want to be accepted by others, so we become a slave to the opinions of others. We live by their praise and die by their criticism.
Absolute Surrender
It took a third cancer diagnosis to force me to let go of my life. Not that I had much choice in the matter, but for the year before, I’d been tirelessly attempting to control my fate. I changed my diet, eating less sugar and more cruciferous vegetables. I ran daily, finally completing my second half-marathon.
Free to Serve - The Stream
By Katie Davis Majors Published on July 16, 2023 “Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” (1 Thessalonians 2:8) This verse — written by Paul, Silas, and Timothy regarding their time with the Thessalonians — hung on the wall for years in my home in Uganda as a reminder of how we wanted to live, how we actually did get to live: inviting people into our home, into our lives, serving and being served by our beloved...
You'll Have It When You Need It
By Joël Malm Published on July 9, 2023 If you’re like me, the truth that challenges and struggles are an inevitable part of every season of life isn’t exactly comforting. I’m just not to the point where I can say I rejoice in suffering. In fact, most of my biggest worries and fears are related to how to avoid future suffering. When things are going fairly well, I’ve ruined many a peaceful night wondering when it’s going to get bad again. Just how bad is it going to get?
Stay Salty - The Stream
But. It’s a small word that carries a lot of power. When we use the word but, people brace themselves for what comes next, or they might even make a face. We may not want hear what follows it, but we have to pay attention if we want a complete picture. We have to listen to resolve our feelings and prepare to act in response to what the whole truth is. When Jesus uses the word but as he talks about our identity and calling to be salt, it is only reasonable to lean in and pay super close attention.
A Prayer for Guidance from the Holy Spirit
A Prayer for Guidance from the Holy Spirit By Kenny Luck And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. – Hebrews 13:16 One of the Holy Spirit's tasks is to experientially validate for every believer God’s awesome love, acceptance, and encouragement toward each of His children. We “taste and see” that the Lord is good through the Holy Spirit, bringing his goodness to us (Psalm 34:8). We sense it and feel it deeply.

Male friendship in Christ should be uncomfortable. Here's why
By Kenny Luck, Special to CP Victory or defeat is determined in most men’s lives by the friends they choose. That powerful fact is being played out in your life right now, with consequences for the Kingdom of God. God calls his dangerous good to examine their first circle of friendships to determine if the driving force behind them is Jesus Christ and if the goal of that fellowship of men is to become like him.
A Dangerous Need: Receiving a Strong Love
God proceeds to issue his second power declaration over and about Jesus in front of the crowd. “This is my son whom I love.” Whereas the pride of the Father-Son connection could be felt in the first statement (This is my son), the heart of the Father would be felt in the second. In context, it reflects for all time what every man, woman, and child needs to hear and experience: unconditional love or acceptance without performance. These words are spoken over Jesus at his baptism.
God's Not a Buzzkill
Kenny Luck Founder, Every Man Ministries 2021 2 Mar Drinking is intertwined in our culture with almost every event in life, whether it’s a wedding or a funeral. But it’s hardly new. The Bible records several stories and suggestions about alcohol. Heck, even Jesus turned water into wine, so surely there’s a place for alcohol in society, right? I bet that tasted good. For many of us it’s a welcomed ritual with benefits.
Men can be victims of domestic violence, too, and it's time we recognized it
By Kenny Luck|Contributor 7:00 AM on Oct 11, 2018 The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that one in three women will be a victim of some sort of physical violence by an intimate partner within her lifetime. As a husband and the father of two daughters, that is hard to read, but it is nothing I hadn't heard before. But then I kept reading and learned that one in four men will also be a victim of domestic violence. That caught me off-guard. At first, I was confused.
Men can be victims of domestic violence, too, and it's time we recognized it
It also can happen to the famous and the not-so-famous. The late singer Whitney Houston once told The Associated Press that she beat her husband, Bobby Brown. "Contrary to belief, I do the hitting, he doesn't," she said. The Los Angeles Times ran a story last year about male victims of domestic violence, including Joshua Miller of Dallas. His girlfriend smashed their son's toy guitar against Miller's forehead. When the police arrived, they initially cuffed Miller, not his girlfriend.
Kavanaugh and 'Himpathy'
Recently, I learned the term "himpathy." This term is used to describe what happens when men rally around men who have been accused of something. They support them simply because they are men and they have put themselves in the shoes of the accused. You know what I call it? The Old Boys' Club, the idea that men stick together no matter what. It's good in theory, but the reality is this band of brothers has created decades of pain and destruction. It led to the #MeToo and #ChurchToo movements.
My two brothers killed themselves - Here's my advice to others who've lost loved ones to suicide
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month – a month I wish had no reason to exist. Unfortunately, suicide is a topic I am all too familiar with. I remember the phone calls as if they happened yesterday. The first one came on April 10, 1993 as I was giving my daughter a bath. My sister Debbie was calling to tell me that my older brother Pat had taken his own life by overdosing on alcohol and blood-pressure medication. The news hit me like a ton of bricks.
Hey Dads, Here’s How You Can Get Involved This School Year
Let’s be honest, when it comes to school we dads tend to be inactive. Typically, mom is the one that takes the kids to get their school supplies, ushers them to and from school and helps with homework. In most cases, this isn’t out of a lack of caring, many of us are simply just busy trying to provide for our families. But as dads, that excuse is not good enough. We need to get involved in our child’s education because when we invest time in that, we are investing in their future.
When 'Men Act in the Interests of Others,' Good Things Happen
Our broken male culture can be turned on its head. A “dangerous” and “good” revolution of men — committed followers of Christ who are willing to take the risk of confronting the evil around them — lies ahead, in my view. This has rarely been more clear to me than when I spoke recently at a conference about sex trafficking and orphan care. The first speaker was a nationally known expert in human trafficking. She told a moving story of her exposure to the child sex trade in Cambodia.
Fathers are important -- When they're not around we all suffer
Father’s Day is a time when we reflect and honor the men who have provided for us and raised us. For some, honoring dad is easier than it is for others. I grew up with a dad who preferred to spend more time with a bottle in his hand than with us. When you grow up with an absent, alcoholic father, it’s very easy to follow the same path of destruction. Though I did start that way, I was fortunate not to become another statistic. Many young men aren’t as lucky.
The Bible Offers a Blueprint for How Men, Women Should Work Together
In these days of #MeToo and #ChurchToo, after Bill Hybels and Paige Patterson have very publicly fallen from lofty perches in the Evangelical world, let's turn to a Bible story written more than 2,500 years ago for a blueprint for productive relationships between men and women. The Book of Judges offers a timeless example of a man who rises above culture to dignify and partner with a strong woman. In a welcomed twist, the woman agrees, loves it, and celebrates the partnership.
GQ or God: Which Makes the Better Man?
You probably saw that GQ, a magazine that purports to help men become all they can be, put the Bible on a list of 21 classic books “you don’t have to read” — describing it as “repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish.” This makes no sense. Who would be so foolish to say such a moronic thing about the best-selling and most translated book in human history?
My Heart Is Breaking, My Blood Is Boiling
My heart is breaking for the families of those murdered yesterday by Nikolas Cruz in Parkland, Florida. Inner character was expressed in murderous conduct. A person — not policy or politics — committed this atrocity. In our pain, sadness and anger we lash out over events like this we can't control by grabbing the nearest source to blame. We react.

For kids, school’s out, free time is in. For families, special memories, trips and other adventures will be made. For men, the juggling act continues keeping the balls at work in the air, while mixing in some time away from the office for some time with the family. For Satan, summer breaks provide ample opportunity to ramp up temptation, distraction, flirtation, and ultimately destruction.

Father’s day is coming and our national church response will be predictable. Will you have the dads stand up? Will you pray for them? Will you show a funny YouTube video? Maybe have some classic cars or motorcycles on the patio? Maybe you will fire up some BBQ and serve up some beef. This picnic will follow a message out of the can focused on the importance of dads, leadership, or family.

Top 5 Tips for Fathering Teenagers; How to Counter the Viral Growth of Youth Crime
As children move though the teen years they desire to pole vault into independence. This, mixed with a bubbling set of hormones and an ever-expanding understanding of society, can make fathering teens one of the hardest, emotionally charged tasks for God's man. Yet, it's critical to "lean into" these years versus withdraw and not allow the pace of life or teenage attitudes to create detachment.

The No. 1 Threat to Marriage and 6 Ways to Be a Hero at Home
Every young sports fan dreams of being a professional athlete—the physique, fame and fortune. Unfortunately, when we pick up the Sports page or log on to the net, we see on a regular basis that not all athletes are as strong at home as they are on the field. That's because there's one more thing that often accompanies professional athletic success: Adoring women. Sex scandals have taken down some of the most amazing athletes and their marriages.
4 New Year's Resolutions You Should Consider!
It's inevitable and universal, as soon as Christmas winds down and December 31 appears on our phones, we all face a new year with new opportunities. Many are resolving to lose weight or gain greater income or set some other goal, typically requiring will power and time management skills -- both of which often fade within a few weeks. If God were writing our resolutions, what do you think He would come up with?

Thank the Giver vs Give Thanks; 'Meat-up' This Thanksgiving
Holiday cheer can be hard to muster when there's chaos in the air. With the addition of more tasks and less time than usual, 'tis the season that puts a squeeze on our emotions, priorities and finances. Some men paint on a grin and roll through the routine with low expectations. Others face demons from the past, broken families, pressures and circumstances that bring up pain. For many, it's not survival of the fittest; it's just a matter of survival. Holidays can be so much more.
What is Every Man's Achilles Heel?
A friend has been learning a lot about the Achilles tendon lately. At 47-years-old, locals nicknamed him "Old School" because he is still able to teach the young guns a few basketball lessons. However, the wear-and-tear from years on the court has started to wear-out the oh-so-critical tendon. So now Old School just feels old and (gulp) has to admit he has a weakness... And that's what's most important. He has to admit he has a weakness.
Sexual Atheism: Christian Dating Data Reveals a Deeper Spiritual Malaise

Hope For a Second Marriage: Lessons For the 'Marital Tweener'
By Kenny Luck, Special to CP I'm a big fan for marriage, even second marriages. Why? Because although God despises divorce, He loves family, and is more concerned about our character. He uses tests, trials and yes, even divorce. Why? Because he likes to redeem life from death. If you're married, keep it that way. Love your spouse like Christ loved the church, sacrificing everything for her. However, should the divorce bug bite, there is still hope for a second go around.
Kenny Luck: Stop the Self-Gratification
Admit it. You masturbate. Either in the past or recently—heck, maybe this morning. All men, married or single, young or old, struggle with this self-indulgence. While it would be easy to get caught in the debate of whether or not it’s a sin (and I believe it is), let me suggest that, in my own journey as a God’s man, the reward of saving my sexual appetite for my wife is so worth waiting for.

Eating Men Alive: Powerful Men, Common Fears

They were disciplined warriors who possessed the spoils of manhood while simultaneously achieving "role model" status bequeathed to those who are professionally transcendent. Both were also known best for wearing the color green.
