Abstract The Interior Population of trumpeter swans (Cygnus buccinator) has grown and expanded substantially since reintroduction efforts began in the 1950s. To support management of this population, we developed a landscape suitability model and range expansion estimates (2023‒2033).

INTRODUCTION Grassland ecosystems have been extensively used to meet human needs for food, fiber, and fuel (Foley et al., 2005). As a result, the extent and ecological condition of grasslands have declined, and little is protected relative to other ecosystems (Askins et al., 2007; Hoekstra et al., 2004). Worldwide, the grassland biome has the largest ratio of converted to protected lands (i.e., 45.8% converted and 10.6% protected) (Hoekstra et al., 2004).
