See the survey 15 May 2026 Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming part of disaster risk reduction (DRR). It is already being used to forecast hazards , map exposure and guide decisions about where assistance may be needed. That potential is real. But so is the risk.
3 landlord questions in NJ
Hi folks, Just curious if anyone can answer these 3 questions about renting a house in New Jersey. I’m still kind of new to being a landlord and I want to make sure I'm "following the right laws", etc. 1. I currently have a security deposit from my tenants, which is 1.5 month's rent. From what I've read, that's the maximum you're allowed to have for a security deposit in NJ. Now the tenant will be bringing in a dog and I'm trying to figure out the best path forward.

Promoting trust and science in disaster risk reduction
In recent years, the convergence of populism and post-truth politics has posed significant challenges to disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts. This intersection undermines evidence-based decision-making, weakens institutional trust, and disproportionately affects marginalised communities. DRR relies on scientific research, risk assessments, and coordinated policy responses to effectively prevent, mitigate, and respond to disasters.
Beyond Binary: (Re)Defining “Gender” for 21st Century Disaster Risk Reduction Research, Policy, and Practice
Abstract : The dominant discourse of gender focuses on the binary of woman/man, despite the known additional risks for diverse sexualities and gender minorities in disasters. Given the small but growing body of literature concerning gender minorities in disasters, this paper sets out to explore the place of sex and gender minorities in disasters and to examine whether a binary definition needs to be extended. A five-stage rapid review was undertaken following Arksey and O’Malley’s method.
Somewhere over the reading rainbow
On the first floor of the Lafayette Public Library’s main branch, beneath a giant cased opening whimsically painted to resemble an open book, a pair of tiny black and orange striped leggings flutter furiously from atop a frazzled mother’s shoulders. The sound of high-pitched shrieking grows louder and more frantic as she zips past the circulation desk to the automatic exit doors. “I don’t want to go home. I don’t want to go home,” the toddler cries.
My Turn: Kevin M. Blanchard: Students today should be activists
By Kevin M. Blanchard “There’s nothing I can do about it. I’m just a kid.”One of my juniors said this after delivering a six-minute talk on the inequities of public funding for education in the United States to an audience of his peers and a few parents. For a week, I sat and listened to and considered their opinions, arguments and descriptions of various elements of today’s educational system that really mattered to them.
Acadiana Voices: We need to rally around connector
We should all commend The Advertiser for its recent editorial demanding better, more meaningful public participation in the planning process for the Interstate 49 Connector. As a former journalist, I believe that community newspapers are often most valuable when they tell us the uncomfortable truths we need to hear. And the truth is we could all do better. This is the biggest transportation project in the history of our city and region.
