Woofie loves the water, said owner Kaitlyn Layton of Festus. “He spends most of his summer in the river,” she said. “He likes to swim and ride on the kayak.” She said Woofie, 5, is a Catahoula-husky mix. “The photo was taken a few years ago during our first float trip on the Meramec,” Layton said “This photo is special to me because it shows me what is possible between him and I. It shows the trust he and I have in each other.” She said Woofie is a bold dog. “He’s wild and free-spirited,” she said.

Festus City Council members on June 8 voted 7-0 to approve the appointment of Lori Eisenbeis as city treasurer until the next general election.

The Festus City Council on June 8 approved Jokerst Paving & Contracting of Festus to handle its 2026 street improvements project for its low bid of $1,361,052.97. The work includes concrete pad replacement and asphalt overlay. Council members voted 7-0 to approve Jokerst, the low bidder of three companies that submitted complete bids, for the project. A fourth company only submitted a bid for concrete work.
