The methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) gene is deleted in approximately 10–15% of human cancers due to its proximity to the tumor suppressor gene CDKN2A. (1−3) The MTAP gene encodes the MTAP enzyme which is involved in the methionine salvage pathway by catalyzing the phosphorolysis of 5′-methylthioadenosine (MTA).
