What was your first job as a journalist?
Reporter for the Norwalk News, a weekly newspaper (no longer with us) in Norwalk, Conn.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes indeed, in my first job. And it was a manual typewriter.
How is social media changing news?
It makes everyone a reporter--for better or worse. The pros must stand out by earning reputations for accuracy, fairness, and reliability.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means doing the most important job in a democracy: ensuring a well-informed citizenry. Without it, nothing else matters.
What's your favorite social network?

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Covering the arrest and trial of the developer who owned my newspaper.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Ask yourself, "Do I want to *write* the news or *be* the news?" If it's the latter, do something else.
