THE HEIRESS
On Monday, the front runner in Mexico’s upcoming presidential election, Claudia Sheinbaum of the ruling MORENA party, laid out her proposed energy policies in a speech commemorating the 86th anniversary of Pemex, the state energy company. Sheinbaum vowed to continue pumping government support into Pemex, whose eye-watering debt now exceeds US$100 billion.
BOLSOLULA STRIKES AGAIN
In his prepared address at the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa last weekend, the Brazilian president called for equal condemnation of the Hamas attacks on Israel and the latter’s “disproportionate response.” Just after, Lula da Silva told reporters that the war in Gaza “has no parallel in other historical moments” except “when Hitler decided to kill the Jews.” The comments drew immediate diplomatic and political condemnation from Israel, where the Brazilian ambassador was summoned not to...
THE SERIOUS RADICAL
President-elect Javier Milei had a very busy week between shuffling and re-shuffling his Cabinet-to-be while jetting off to New York and Washington with his pick for Economy Minister, the former finance secretary Luis Caputo.
BRICS OF SAND
The 15th annual BRICS Summit happened in Johannesburg this week, and the leaders of Brazil, India, China and South Africa gathered to take lots of grand looking pictures for their national news outlets, blather about challenging “a unipolar world” (wink wink the United States), discuss nothing of substance and not resolve to do anything meaningful.
Most Important In-Season Additions
In the NFL, it is essential to always keep adding to your team in whatever ways possible, and this year’s playoffs have proven exactly that. These players that we will be focusing on were able to quickly adjust to new surroundings and make immediate impacts to help their team win and reach the Conference Championship Round. Read below for a look at the five most consequential in-season additions and a breakdown of their impacts.
John Fox's 3 Pillars That Form a Super Bowl Foundation
One of the most important things that all great coaches have in common is a strong “why” behind everything they do. If a coach’s “why” is to make money, this profession probably won’t work out for them. My “why” has always been to win a world championship. It’s easy to talk about, but getting to a Super Bowl takes more than just talent.
The Top Performers of Wild Card Weekend
After an action-packed Wild Card weekend filled with many standout performers, we take a look at the most impactful contributors from each winning team: Raiders at Bengals Ja’Marr Chase In their first postseason victory since 1991, the Cincinnati Bengals put together a quality showing, including a strong performance from their stud rookie receiver. Ja’Marr Chase reeled in nine passes on Saturday, and he would’ve had even more had he not dropped two of his twelve targets.
Which Wild Card Losers Will Bounce Back Next Year?
For six teams, this Super Wild Card weekend was incredible, and they will be looking forward to next week’s games. But for their opponents, it is now time to look to next season. Below, we will take a look at the offseason outlook for those six teams including key free agents, cap space, draft picks, and more important information.
Las Vegas Raiders Finish 2021 As NFL's Most Undisciplined Team
In the final Discipline Index of the 2021 NFL Season, the Green Bay Packers finish on top after a strong campaign. The Packers managed to only turn the ball over 13 times throughout the course of the season (tied for the least amount of turnovers in the league) and committed only 69 penalties for 678 yards on the year (1st and 4th least in the NFL in their respective categories).
Domo's Pre-Playoff Power Rankings
Heading into the 2022 NFL playoffs, Hall of Fame selector Paul Domowitch shares his power rankings of the 14-team field. The biggest riser from this week is the AFC’s No. 1-seeded Titans, going from No. 11 to No. 6. Meanwhile, the biggest faller was the Los Angeles Rams, who dropped from No. 2 all the way to No. 7. 1) Packers (13-4) Previous: 1 Seed: NFC No. 1 This week: bye Record v. playoff teams: 5-1 Streak: Finished with 5 straight wins after November losses to the Chiefs and Vikings.
Raiders and Chargers Rise
1) Packers (13-3) Previous: 1 Last week: W37-10MIN This week: at 2-13-1 Lions Good news: Packers have clinched the NFC No. 1 seed for the second year in a row, which means the road to the Super Bowl once again goes through frigid Green Bay. Bad news: None that I can see without a microscope. 2) Rams (12-4) Previous: 5 Last week: W20-19@BAL This week: v. 9-7 49ers Good news: Defense has allowed just 16.4 points per game during the Rams’ five-game win streak.
Ja'Marr Chase Is Historically Great, and the Rookie Of the Year Slam Dunk
In a draft which saw 5 quarterbacks drafted in the first 15 picks, 3 of whom became immediate starters, it would’ve been bold to predict anyone other than a QB would win Offensive Rookie of the Year for 2021. Quarterbacks have been dominating this award recently as the league continues to lean more towards valuing that position well above the rest. Trevor Lawrence had long been heralded as a “generational prospect” who would light up the NFL immediately.
Should Players Opt-Out of Bowl Games? From the Perspective Of Players, Coaches and Scouts
When Matt Corral went down with a leg injury early in the Sugar Bowl and returned on crutches with tears in his eyes, many around college football had disparate takes on the events that brought him to this moment. Despite being considered as a potential first-rounder in the 2022 draft class, Corral decided to play out the Sugar Bowl with his teammates.
Raiders Overtake Cowboys As NFL's Most Penalized Team
Despite a rocky start to Sunday Night Football in Week 14, the Green Bay Packers played a disciplined enough game to stay at the top of the 33rd Team’s Discipline Index with their 45-30 victory over the Chicago Bears. Still, the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams, and others are not far behind the Packers. Green Bay will have a chance to redeem itself in Week 15 against a potentially hobbled Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
The Best Veteran Bargains In the NFL
Finding value deals is key for NFL franchises, and while the most common way of doing so is with players on rookie contracts, this isn’t the only way. Every season, we see a number of players make impacts well above their salaries, and this year is no different. These five players and three honorable mentions epitomize out-producing their pay. Since all are on one-year “prove-it” deals, each veteran will have the opportunity to potentially cash in on bigger deals this offseason.
Bills Finally Drop From No. 1
The 33rd Team is proud to be home for the Aikman Efficiency Ratings — Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman’s proprietary formula for measuring team offense and team defense in the NFL.
Domo’s Week 13 NFL Power Rankings: Cowboys Back in Top 10
After calling it a career after 45 years of sports writing — including 36 Super Bowls covered — former Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Paul Domowitch is bringing his weekly power rankings to the 33rd Team. Here he gives us the skinny on the good news and bad news that each NFL team is dealing with. 1) Cardinals (10-2) Previous: 1 Cardinals 10-2 Last week: W33-22@CHI This week: v.
Prioritize D'Onta Foreman
We’re in the thick of mounting injuries as the fantasy football playoff hunt intensifies. Immediate help becomes more valuable, as bye weeks have yet to conclude. Still, it’s important for teams in solid positions to think a few weeks down the line, as playoff success is ultimately all that matters. Teams on the playoff bubble need to maximize points now though. As always, all rostership levels are based on Yahoo leagues. Your mileage may vary depending on your provider and league settings.
Domo's NFL Power Rankings: Disappointing Cowboys Drop While Titans Own the AFC

Here he gives us the skinny on the good news and bad news that each NFL team is dealing with. 1) Cardinals (7-1) Previous: 4 Last week: W31-17@SF This week: v.
Fantasy Football: Streaming Defenses and Kickers - Week 8
With much easier bye weeks to navigate this week, the options are definitely better than last week. Below I will break down the best Week 8 streaming matchups for both defense and kicker and the reasons why I feel they are great options. Defense: Chicago Bears (vs. SF) The Bears defense snapped a streak of five consecutive games with three or more sacks this past week against Tampa, but they are a good bounce-back option for this week.
Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups: Kenneth Gainwell is a Priority
As will be the case the rest of the year, backups in high-value roles are the key to fantasy success. Between bye weeks, mounting injuries, and changing roles, many of our early draft picks aren’t contributing points at the moment. I’ve belabored this point all year, but the key is securing these players before they’re thrust into a starting role. It varies with league settings, but most of the time it’s too late to get the preferred options when the starter in front of them goes down.
Denver and Seattle Take a Tumble
1 Bucs (4-1) Previous: 1 Last Game: W45-17 vs MIA Good News: Tom Brady threw for 411 yards and 5 TDs against the Dolphins Sunday and hasn’t thrown an interception since Week 1. Bad News: Brady injured his thumb early in Sunday’s game and won’t have a lot of time for it to heal with the Bucs playing on Thursday night. Then again, he threw five TDs after suffering the injury.
Surprising Broncos Are No. 1 in Aikman Efficiency Ratings
It was no surprise to see the Saints atop the Aikman Efficiency Ratings after their Week 1 drubbing of the Packers, but you may be surprised to see which team is the new no. 1 after Week 2. The 2-0 Denver Broncos have the best overall Aikman Efficiency Rating, Hall of Famer Troy Aikman’s proprietary metric for ranking team offense and defense.
Fantasy Football Week 3 Starts/Sits
As said here every week, I can’t predict the future nor do I try to pretend to. What I can do is dive into the numbers, dig through the juicy matchups, examine trends, watch the film, and collect data that I feel should lean towards certain players being better starts than others. While it won’t always play out that way, fantasy is a game of what’s most “likely” to happen and we need to attack it that way.
Week 1 Fantasy Overreactions
Welcome to chaos! It’s a Monday during NFL season, meaning that you can take any occurrence from Sunday and make a completely wild narrative with it. You can also believe it’s a sign of what’s to come and be ahead of the pack! Every Monday, we’re going to identify five of these potential overreactions from the week’s NFL action. While these are just our opinions, feel free to use your own thoughts on each narrative.
Top 5 Underperforming Recruiting Classes
Every year, recruiting outlets make their lists of the top high school recruits in the country. In addition, these same recruiting sites also put together lists of where each recruiting class stands in relation to other colleges. Every school that obtains a “top-tier” recruiting class would like each and every one of the recruits to work out, that is just not the case in the world of sports, especially in football.
Immigration Troubles Need Fixing at the Source – InsideSources
The flood of asylum seekers at our southern border has put a point on the severity of the United States’ immigration problem. It’s also punctuated what a problem it is for Washington. To truly stem the tide of illegal migration, lawmakers need solutions that turn off the spigot rather than just pinch the hose. That requires elevating economic conditions in Central American countries, particularly those like Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, where most migrants originate.
We can’t solve the migration crisis without providing energy to Central America [Opinion]
Washington has been gridlocked for years over how to deal with a record number of migrants arriving from Central America at the southern border or ports of entry. While the debate on border security rages among politicians, there is a wealth of American know-how available to work on the problem at its source — and ready to do it without spending a dime of U.S. taxpayer money. Central America needs to pull itself out of its deep economic abyss to stem the flow of people moving north.
