What was your first job as a journalist?
I wrote a single article for CU-Boulder's Colorado Engineer Magazine!
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. In elementary school as a necessity. In high school as an affectation.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Know what's *really* going on. Do your best to communicate this to your readers.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
For long-term or in-depth projects, I love organizing my notes in WikiDPad.
Who do you wish followed you?
People who don't quite fit the regnant orthodoxies of right, left and centrist.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I wrote one opinion column after I got kicked out of the neighboring Walgreens. The store had banned students with backpacks.
When's the best time to pitch you?
When you're confident I'll be interested.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I'll be at the Denver Press Club, a fraternal society meeting, or at my wife's side.
